ANDRE LEON TALLEY: Sartorial Supremo

Power lies in style, making one think: ‘Oh, I could have done that!’ but then, someone actually did it, much before anyone thought of it. Understanding and appreciating the foresight behind people with ideas that we take for granted takes effort, especially if the ideas have evolved before one’s time.

Take Andre Leon Talley, former American Vogue Editor-at-Large and presently Contributing Editor, Monsieur Talley is definitely an imposing fashion trendsetter himself.

Standing 6'7, his flamboyant and individualist outfits- made-to-order, undoubtedly attract attentions. A front row regular, at fashion shows in Paris,New York, London and Milan, his style of dressing is a visual seduction of the senses..intriguing..genuine.

Just like separating solitaires from paste, will leave the wannabe riff- raff far, far behind on the sartorial run, instead of being trampled on celebrities and divas presence on season events, Mr. Talley has picked up his personal version of trends, in his own style.

Andre Leon Talley has kept leaders of the rug trade stylish pack amazed at his dramatic entrances, proving his fashion’s mindset maturity and authority.
The boldness of his style makes it difficult to believe that he had, “suffered from weight problems” all his life. After being advised by talk show host Oprah, to reduce his alarming weight, Talley liberated his body from being over weight to acceptable level.

Camp to Glamp - Glastonbury Voted the Smelliest Festival!!

Festivals are fast approaching and with many groups opting to go ‘glamping’, festival fumes are out of the window and fragrant fans are top of the bill.
A poll of 3,000 festival goers revealed that Glastonbury is the worst smelling gig in the festival calendar according to a survey commissioned by The Perfume Shop.
More than 78 per cent of people who have attended Glastonbury named the toilets as the worst smell, while another 35 per cent found fellow campers body odour less than fragrant. Another 30 per cent struggle with the smell of the rubbish created by the 170,000 music fans.

Second place went to the Reading Festival, where 16 per cent of people admitted they didn’t wash at all over the three-day event. Researchers found that the average festival fan washes just twice during their stay, team this with 35 per cent of people disgusted by the body odour from fellow festival-goers and you have a number of unhappy campers!
More than one in five also wear the same clothes for the entire duration of the festival, with more than one in ten not bothering to use any deodorant – instead, 54 per cent rely on body spray or perfume to mask the smell.

Many campers look for a quick fix, with 38 per cent of those simply using baby wipes to freshen up and more than 15 per cent of people buying a fragrance especially to use at the festival. The new glamping trend has resulted in a mini beauty regime that is both fabulous and festival friendly. The Perfume Shop’s Festival Travalo is the perfect marriage between style and substance, the flower power patterned portable pocket perfume atomizer packs a punch with aircraft grade aluminim and handy neck strap as well as 50 sprays of your favourite scent. The Festival Travalo is available mid-July.

A spokesperson from The Perfume Shop, which carried out the study said; “Everyone knows that festivals are the perfect place to let your hair down but often day-to-day grooming goes amiss. Glastonbury is particularly notorious for its bad smells from festival-goers who go days without washing. With so many people crowded into a small area, it’s inevitable that there are going to be some less-than-pleasant smells lingering, especially if you get lucky and the sun puts in an appearance. But I’m sure many fans would say the festival wouldn’t be the same without the bad smells. However, today’s ‘I can have everything’ mentality means campers can be both glamorous and grunge all at once.
The Perfume Shop Festival Travalo is the perfect accessory for providing your favourite fragrance on the go without the worry of losing a full bottle or taking up precious pace.”
Heavy metal extravaganza Download took third place in the smelliest festival poll, with more than one in ten admitting to not bothering with deodorant. Dance event Creamfields and the Isle of Wight festival completed the top five.

The Big Chill was named as the cleanest and nicest smelling event of the year with just 21 per cent complaining about the rubbish. More than a quarter of people who have experienced the event also reckon it has the best showers and toilets of all the UK festivals. Second place went to Bestival, followed by the O2 Wireless Festival, V-Fest and Global Gathering. However, two thirds say the bad smells wouldn’t ever put them off going to a music festival, with half believing the odours help the atmosphere at the event.

MAC Cosmetics at the MMVAs

M·A·C Cosmetics was stationed backstage at the MuchMusic Video Awards last Sunday night, prepping performers and presenters for the spotlight. Some of the much-loved makeup artists were even summoned to the stars’ hotel rooms to get them all glammed up before their strut down the carpet. See below for some insider info on favorite products used at the MMVA’s.

Whitney Port

The City star rocked the red carpet with glowing skin, subtly lined eyes and a neutral lip. M·A·C Sr. Artist Jane McKay used the following key products to achieve her radiant skin: M·A·C’s Strobe Cream, Care Blends Essential Oils, and Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder.

Jane highlighted her cheekbones with M·A·C Iridescent Loose Powder in Silver Dusk and gave her a slight flush with Mineralize Blush in Dainty. For a subtly rich look on the eyes, Jane used Omega and Woodwinked eye shadows, lined with Fluidline in Blacktrack and Eye Kohl in Smolder. Jane gave Whitney’s amazing lashes a boost by applying #7 Lashes and topping them off with Opulash mascara in Bad Bad Black. For a nude lip, Jane added Cremesheen Glass in Boy Bait – a makeup artist fave!

Jessica Szohr

This Gossip Girl glittered in her dress, and M·A·C Sr. Artist Melissa Gibson based her makeup look around her outfit - a rusty orange coloured getup with tons of sparkle.

“We balanced the dress with a really strong cat eye. M·A·C Fluidline in Blacktrack was all around her eye and winged out at the end. I then added a small amount of eye shadow in Coppering to the lid to bring out that rusty orange hue. M·A·C Clear Brow Set in her brows and tons of Opulash mascara topped off the look!” said Melissa.

To get Jessica looking like a bronzed goddess, Melissa brushed Mineralize Skinfinish/Natural in Dark on top of Studio Sculpt Foundation, which added a contoured effect to her cheeks. “We kept the lip her natural colour and topped with Clear Lipglass so the focus remained on the eyes,” added Melissa.

Miley Cyrus

As the co-host of the MMVAs, Miley had to stand out. For her look, freelance makeup artist Denika Bedrossian went with a clean, yet sexy, cat eye. “We chose to go with a matte eye shadow and a defined eye liner using M·A·C’s Fluidline in Blacktrack. I started with a base of Painterly Paint Pot and layered on eye shadows Vanilla and Orb, with Charcoal Brown in the crease and lash line. The inspiration for this look was a more rocker version of the classic Bridget Bardot look.”

*Note: Eye Shadow 08 = Vanilla, Eye Shadow 09 = Charcoal Brown

Kristen Cavallari

The Hills star looked smashing at the MMVA’s. Freelance makeup artist Grace Lee gave her a defined eye using Eye Kohl in Smolder and Fluidline in Blacktrack (clearly the two favourite products of the night!!). She added a dab of Reflects Antique Gold on the lid for a hit of sparkle.
